Lincoln's Presidency:Edit

He became president in 1861 representing the Republican Party after the previous president James Buchanan. His Vice presidents were Hannibal Hamlin and Andrew Johnson, who later became president. During his presidency was the American Civil War. The original goal was to preserve the Union but later the focus started to change to ending slavery because the confederates were using slaves to fight in different battles. On the topic of slavery he was independent. He believed that slavery would end its self. Although slaves were fighting on the confederate side. His idea to stop this was with the Emancipation Proclamation. This allowed many slaves to fight on the Union side for their freedom. It also allowed any slaves in any of the rebelling states to go free. The one flaw was that it didn’t free any slaves in non- rebelling states.
